White House: Obama Will "Mention" NY Marriage Battle, But Won't Take A Position
0 comments Posted by news at 1:48 PMDespite strong pressure for the president to endorse marriage equality at tonight's Manhattan fundraiser with LGBT community leaders, the White House says that isn't going to happen.
White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said on Thursday that President Obama plans to “mention” during an LGBT fundraiser later in the evening a pending marriage equality bill in the New York Legislature, but won’t come out either for or against the legislation. Carney said the president will maintain the marriage issue should be something left to the states to decide. Many political observers believe New York is on the cusp of legalizing same-sex marriage and the necessary 32 votes are secured in the Republican-controlled State Senate to move forward with the legislation.The president will begin the evening by attending a performance of the Broadway hit, Sister Act.
RELATED: According to rumors circulating on Twitter this afternoon, President Obama will not endorse marriage equality at tonight's LGBT fundraiser in Manhattan.
"I'm surprised the health department has not come out against this because we are going to have an HIV epidemic if this passes. They (health department) are always complaining about tobacco and smoking, I'm surprised they didn't say anything about this. You don't see two male dogs sleeping in the same dog house together. I'm fairly sure I first posted this cartoon here a couple of years ago, but it's being passed around on Twitter today and feels just as true as when it was first published.
Im only going to predict the top 10 because this draft sucks (the jokes still on you, Cleveland) and there are only about 5 players that will be useful NBA starters. Of those players, maybe one will play in an All Star game.
1- Cleveland- Kyrie Irving- Done deal. He earned it, playing 8 fucking games all of last year
2- Minnesota- Derrick Williams- Experts call him a tweener. Did they watch the Duke game
3- Utah- Brandon Knight- 5 years from now he will be the best player in this draft
4- Cleveland- Enes Kanter- Biggest question mark in the draft
5- Toronto- Tristan Thompson- Gut feeling here, someone to replace Bosh in the post

The biggest drama of the night will be when the Utah Jazz pick at #12. Its gonna come down to either Kemba or Jimmer. We will see what those racist do, I guess. I know which one I'm picking in a pick up game.
The Bulls have 2 first round picks this year. I predict one goes to a European who won't be ready until 2013, and the other pick will be used to get a small forward like Kyle Singler or JaJuan Johnson.
So he threw a pool party to help get his mind off basketball....
....And by basketball, I mean Eva Longoria's ass.

Nic Robertson: 'Taliban playing a long game'
How will U.S. troop withdrawal affect places like Kabul and Kandahar and what is the Taliban's long-term strategy?
CNN senior international correspondent talked with CNN's Anderson Cooper after President Obama's Afghanistan address:
COOPER: [In his address, Obama] said it's time "to focus on nation building here at home." ... Nation building is not officially what the U.S. says they're doing in Afghanistan, but really as part of this counterinsurgency strategy, nation building is what the United States has been doing in Afghanistan for years.
ROBERTSON: It has. If you look at where surges had the best successes, towns in Kandahar and some of the towns in Helmand, it's because there's been security and that's allowed to provide facilities for the mayor's office and for the provincial governor.
Things that they can't afford to do by themselves and get markets back up and running and provide security for street vendors to be able to come out to those markets. It's all these sorts of things that surge has provided for.
When you take that away and when you take those successes and security away, you are left with an environment that the Afghans cannot in many cases sustain themselves.
Kabul has been mostly a relative safe haven, but last week you have a multiple suicide bombing attempt there. You see where Taliban is already trying to impinge into areas where already good security is provided.
COOPER: Nic, you spent a lot of time in Afghanistan. ... How much do you think the Taliban is just waiting out the U.S. like they did with the Soviets and how many people are still on the fence in Afghanistan about whether or not they should side with the Karzai government, with the U.S. or with the Taliban?
ROBERTSON: For sure the Taliban are playing a long game. They always said you've got watches, but we've got the time. It sounds kind of funny, but it's not.
They are prepared to wait out U.S. forces and other NATO forces leaving the country. What they'll be doing is looking at where the drawdown happens and where they can take advantage of that.
If you look at what the Taliban have done during the surge, the surge has really pushed a lot of troops and focused on key provinces and sort of important cities and important highways on the south of the country - Kandahar, Helmand, those places.
But where the surge hasn't been as strong in the east or at all in the north, that's where we have seen the Taliban been able to make their stronger gains.
So they'll look at the situation and where they can have an easier fight and manipulate the population, and the population does sit on the fence because they're not going to put their necks on the line.
If they think the Taliban will come along and cut them off for siding with either the Afghan government or all coalition forces and it's not just strains and differences with the Taliban.
Plenty of people in the country don't like the central government for a variety of reasons. The Taliban will play of against that as well.

So do you believe it is alright to be divorced?
No. Divorce is wrong. Gay marriage is wrong.
You think you are wrong, then?
When I got divorced, I was wrong, yes. Why are you asking me this?
But you believe that gay marriage is wrong and divorce is wrong, but that you should be allowed to get divorced and remarried, and gay people shouldn't be able to marry at all.
When I got divorced, it was wrong, but marriage is between a man and a woman.
So is being divorced OK with your religion?
No, it is not OK. Gay marriage is still wrong. This is what I believe.

If Southwest fires this pilot for these statements, we definitely have a job for him at BigGameChicago. Everything he said was true. From Chicago being party land to all stewardesses being either ball lickers or old hags. When I was younger, the flight attendants were fucking smokes. It used to be like flying with the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders, where every plane ride was like a visit to Hooters. But now all the hot ones are working for CEO's on their private planes. And they wonder why the aviation industry is going down the crapper.

In a segment called Keeping them Honest: Politics of Gay Marriage, Anderson Cooper, host of CNN's Anderson Cooper 360, asked the question: Will President Barack Obama back gay marriage during a New York City gay fundraiser on Thursday?
The question has become more pointed since Tuesday's airing since the New York Senate, the final hurdle to legalizing gay marriage in the Empire State, appears likely to take up a vote on Governor Andrew Cuomo's proposed legislation, possibly as early as Thursday.
“New questions are being raised about what the president actually believes about gay marriage and whether his public opposition to it is real or just political posturing,” Cooper said in the segment.
Cooper noted that Obama favored marriage equality as an Illinois senator in a 1996 survey, but in 2008 he told a group of Christian conservatives that he believed marriage is a “sacred union” “between a man and a woman,” and added that he favors civil unions for gay and lesbian couples, a position he holds today. Obama has since said he's “evolving” on the issue of marriage equality. (The video is embedded in the right panel of this page.)
The president's motorcade is expected to create havoc as it winds its way to the Democratic National Committee's sold-out $1,250-a-ticket Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Gala dinner at the Midtown Sheraton, where actor Neil Patrick Harris will serve as host.
A second opportunity for the president to “evolve” on gay marriage will come at a Gay Pride reception at the White House next week.

First, Anderson kicks things off by saying that Courtney is a young girl with strong values -- and then shows a YouTube video of her singing in a bathing suit. Then, he shows another video of her saying that she "will not do pornography" -- which is really not something we would ever question from a teenager to begin with. To make things even more uncomfortable, she then talks about never having plastic surgery.
Cooper seems to be placing most of the blame for this drama on Stodden's parents, primarily since they seem willing to allow her to do whatever she wants -- including marry a 51-year old man and take semi-nude photos draped in an American flag.
